I'm
going to walk you through an assessment with one of your clients first, then turn you loose to work with the other
four. We're going to start with Robert. There are several things you need to consider.
First, review this chart that presents basic testing principles.
You'll need to learn these principles so that you can apply them with
all your clients.
When testing a client, you want to take the following aspects into account:
- The
client's goal
- The
client's age and sex
- The client's level of experience
and training
- The type of sport the client
is interested in
- The health and safety of the
client
Deciding which exercises to use to test Robert's muscular fitness is
our first concern. Robert is a couch potato and is not presently participating in any particular sport or activity
on a regular basis. This means that we don't have an established set of exercises to draw on as we make our decisions
about which tests to include.
Since Robert is sedentary and has
never trained before, we'll want to look for ways to test his overall
muscular fitness rather than testing specific muscles. We'll want to test
both
upper- and lower-body strength.
But this is not all you should think about. Click Next for other things you should consider about Robert.
